Dinner #3 w/ further instructions

OK everybody....home from dinner.  We are full!

Now, 1st let me address 2 important questions for the contest.

1.  How do you give your answers?  Send me a private message so that no one steals your answers.
2.  The most important question I think.....What's the prize?

Well, I've thought about it and I think it will be a giftcard to our favorite diner!

Now, back to tonight's meal.  First off, I need to say it wasn't exactly a diner but we were invited by some friends, so didn't stick to the 'rules'.  That said, we've given you an outside shot of the restaurant (which is not a chain) for a hint.  Good Luck!

We started with fried pickles....better than I expected!

I had fish tacos (w/guacamole) - very good!

Scott had Chicken Club Tacos w/rice and beans...he said it was spicy.  We also shared a piece of Chocolate Confusion Cake - it looked so good we forgot to take a picture before we devoured it.
Here's the outside.....does that make it too easy?

Date and Diner Week

Hey there,

You'll be able to tell really soon that Scott and I are having fun with Date and Diner week. (Remember our kids away in PA this week - which makes eating out affordable!)  Since we keep getting asked, "Where have you been so far?" we decided to bring you in on the fun with us.  So starting today we are going to post pics each day from where we've eaten and your part is to guess which diner we've been to. Maybe we'll even have a prize at the end of the week for who guesses the most right.  You in?

Here's Diner #1

So, what's your guess....where have we been?

Life Lesson During Cool Down

You never know when a moment of inspiration is going to come to you.  Today mine came before 6am as I was sweating through an exercise dvd.  In an effort to encourage me not to quit, the slave driver, ahem, I mean trainer, said, "Transformation is not a future event.  It's a present lifestyle."

Reminds me of  a text exchange just yesterday with one of my favorite young women.  She and I are both keeping lists this summer of specific things we are thankful to God for.  I let her know that I've completed my first journal at #6,560 since starting my list 14 months ago. She wrote back, "I can't wait til I get there".  I thought, don't look forward to the number - every item recorded is what brings the joy as you go.

Just like transformation.  Truly it is not a future event - but rather a daily pursuit.  And by using the word pursuit, I most definitely am implying intention. Even work and effort.   I think its ok to have an idea in front of you as to what you'd like to be transformed into (hence my daily physical torture) - but the journey toward getting there is where the rubber meets the road - the real life.

I'm thinking it over today.  In a sermon I recently heard from James 2, the preacher said that Jesus is change.  If you're living for Christ, you're changing. You have to be, because He is committed to bringing about a transforming work in your life.  That's His specialty.  Why would He leave us in the state we are in  which speaking for myself, always needs spiritual improvement?

I love the line in the song My Glorious, "And all you ever do is change the old from new....".  That comes from 2 Cor. 5:17, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has gone the new has come."  Present tense - the old is going and the new is coming.  So, let's be honest and ask ourselves the question, "What's new in my life?  Is God doing a new work of change in me?  The cool part about being in community with others is that we can tell!  And the accountability for me is that you can tell if I'm allowing God to change me, too.

Fruit!  That's the evidence.  The Bible clearly teaches different kinds of fruit.  You're either producing the kind that's beautiful, ripe and ready to pick and enjoy:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, self-control and so much more.  Or the bad fruit:  bitterness, hate, anger, gossip, slander, judging, complaining....and so much more, need I go on (?) that needs to be tossed on the garbage pile.

Oh friend, don't waste any time-  examine your fruit today.  Just like I go out to my garden each morning to see what's growing and check for "blemishes", I need to take a serious look in the mirror and identify the fruit that's growing in this life DAILY.

The pastor also said if you're not changing, maybe you don't know Him. Perhaps something to consider.

One lifetime simply isn't time enough to lay down all of our weaknesses, faults, sin tendencies, etc. - every day counts and I, for one want to make as much progress as I can and enjoy the growing relationship with the One who is changing me as I go. That's the coolest benefit.  The closer we draw to Him, the closer He is to us.  Doesn't that make you want to invite some pruning?  It does for me!

Remember, like the exercise guru said, "Tranformation is not a future event.  It's a present lifestyle."  That means today.

Good Friends, a Boat, Cool Lake Water and a Glorious Sunset - Just What the Doctor Ordered.

Sometimes you don't have a whole week for vacation or as much time as you think you need, but we've found that even a few hours in a different setting can prove to be refreshing - enough to relax and recharge.  Yesterday we met some favorite friends at Oneida Lake and spent the late afternoon/evening out on their boat.  You'll be able to tell from the pics that it was glorious!  There's nothing quite like being on the water in the summertime.

I wish we had a few days of this, but it turns out that one night was beautiful, quiet and peaceful enough to calm my soul and give me more to thank God for.

Here we are starting out.  Did I mention it was hazy, hot and humid.  My three least favorite H words?  Perfect night for this adventure.
We stopped and fed some ducks.  So cute!

Girlfriend time off the back of the boat - just swinging out hot feet in the cool water and enjoying the breeze and spectacular view talking about how good God is.

This is my friend, Becky.  She can do anything!  She could easily man this boat by herself.  She makes me want to be better.

Sometimes you just have to jump in!

Tubing was a fun treat.  The kids had lots of fun but have sore shoulders today :)

Stillness.  There's nothing to say but much to take in.

Ben taught himself how to knee board.....

only took a few tries and he was UP!

This is not for 40-something-year-olds.  At least not for this one :)

Sunset on Oneida Lake

No tv program, movie or video game can compete with God's creation.

"God designed a world filled with spiky and furry animals, vast expanses of constellations, and colors unimaginable. God was not stingy in sharing creation with us. When we are enjoying nature, we are experiencing the wild generosity of God."  M.Feinberg

We truly enjoyed nature and experienced the wild generosity of God on this brief boating adventure.  So thankful for good, generous friends and a God who loves to show off His creative side.

"He leads me beside still waters....He restores my soul."  Psalm 23

Three Sweet Treats to Make on a Cool Summer Day

Hey girlfriends,

Last week this time we were wilting in the heat and humidity.  Today, cool and comfortable.  I love it. Did I mention our new house does not have air conditioning?  You read it right.  I thank God for cold fronts and dry air.  Often.  Psalm 121:5 says, "The Lord watches over you - the Lord is your shade at your right hand...".  What a beautiful verse.  This is why today is such an awesome day.  I wasted no time getting in the kitchen and doing some baking.  I mentioned it on facebook and several asked for the recipes.  So here you go!

This is strawberry rhubarb cobbler.  I doubled the recipe to fit a 13x9 pan.  And I also used 1/2 whole wheat flour - I just had to add something else with some nutritional value. :)  Recipe is at link below:
I recommend eating warm w/ice cream or whipped cream

Next I tried a pinterest recipe for Individual Baked Oatmeal - to grab and go.  I love this idea as I am usually not ready for breakfast as early as I leave for work.  So I'll be putting these in my freezer and grabbing them when I need a little something to go.  Made in muffin tins....genius!  They are so good.  I made several different kinds:  raisin and nut, fruit, mini chocolate chips, etc.  You can go wild with your imagination - and they are so healthy and very tasty!  Hope you love them too.

And the last....homemade granola.  Perfect for fruit and/or yogurt.  I can't remember where I got this recipe, but have been using it for a long time now.

Angela's Granola

5 c. quick oats (been known to use old fashioned)
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. apple juice (or whatever juice you have)
1/2 c. dry milk
1/3 c. honey
2 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 t. salt
dried fruit and nuts as you desire*

Mix sugar, juice, dry milk and honey in saucepan and heat until sugar dissolves.  Combine other dry ingredients and mix well.

Place on cookie sheet and bake at 375 for 20-30 min, stirring every 10 minutes.  *add fruits and nuts after baking.  Cool on waxed paper.

Hope you've found something to do today that  brings you joy.
